Alvvays are often described as a dream pop band, but they are not quite the typical representative of the genre. Their music marks influences from 1960s rather than 80s. On their new album Antisocialities, released in 2017, they remain faithful to the sound of the eponymous debut, while at the same time they enrich it with an adult detached view. They worked with John Congleton who has previously collaborated with Future Islands, Explosions in the Sky, St. Vincent, Franz Ferdinand and many more. The album has received a lot of positive reviews and was included in Best 50 albums of 2017 by the Paste magazine. Dreamy, catchy melodies and Molly Rankin’s vocal is a great cocktail that just tastes really good.
The British band Spinning Coin will be opening the evening. They are a five piece from Glasgow. The Guardian wrote that this is indie music from its bowl haircuts to its dirty Converses. In 2015, they have released a debut EP on cassette tape under a DIY label Winning Sperm Party and last year their first LP Permo followed. They have already supported Teenage Fanclub and Real Estate on tour.
Spinning Coin’s sound has been compared to the eightees’ Scottish independent band The Pastels. But it’s not simply the sound of Scotland in the first half of the 1980s, there is aslo dreamy US indie vibe of the early 90s, that can be heard in their music.
